Tickets to Machu Picchu for children under 18 years of age

Although there are ten entrances to Machu Picchu, only five are allowed for visitors of all ages. There are another five entrances available for visitors over 18 years of age. This is to safeguard the integrity of visitors, especially during the hikes to the mountain tops. The tickets for children under 18 are: a) Machu Picchu Classic Photo, b) Machu Picchu Classic, c) Machu Picchu Classic Lower Terrace, d) Machu Picchu Lower Temples and e) Machu Picchu with Intipunku. Which is the best of the new entrances to Machu Picchu?
There are ten types of tickets to Machu Picchu, all offering a different experience in the visit to the Inca citadel. While most tickets offer hiking routes to little known Inca mountains or constructions, according to tour guides, the ticket that provides the best experience, at least on a first visit is the ticket ‘Machu Picchu Classic’ or the ticket ‘Machu Picchu Classic lower terrace’. Both offer the visit to the Inca city through circuit 2, the most complete tour and the one that most tourists prefer because it includes most of the Inca temples. In addition, this ticket offers the classic photo of Machu Picchu from the sector of the Guardian’s House, considered the best postcard photo of the visit. Both tickets are available for people of all ages.


New tickets to the Inca city of Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is one of the best tourist attractions in the world, but also, one of the world’s archaeological sites that are under observation due to the large influx of visitors each year. It is estimated that the Inca city receives around 1.5 million people every year.

To reduce the impact of visitors on Machu Picchu, in 2024, the Peruvian authorities ordered the creation of ten new tourist tickets and three new tourist circuits. The aim is to organize the flow of visitors in a balanced way, ensuring the survival of Machu Picchu for future generations.

These are the new entrance tickets for Machu Picchu:

  • Ticket Machu Picchu Classic Photo – Includes circuit 1, the panoramic circuit.
  • Ticket Machu Picchu Classic – Includes circuit 2, the classic circuit.
  • Ticket Machu Picchu Classic Lower Terrace – Includes circuit 2, the classic circuit.
  • Ticket Machu Picchu Lower Temples – Includes circuit 3, the royal circuit.
  • Ticket Machu Picchu with Huayna Picchu – Includes circuit 3, the royal circuit.
  • Ticket Machu Picchu with Mountain – Includes circuit 1, the panoramic circuit.
  • Ticket Machu Picchu with Huchuy Picchu – Includes circuit 3, the royal circuit.
  • Ticket Machu Picchu with Inca Bridge – Includes circuit 1, the panoramic circuit.
  • Ticket Machu Picchu with Intipunku – Includes circuit 1, the panoramic circuit.
  • Ticket Machu Picchu with Temple of the Moon (Great Cavern) – Includes circuit 3, the royal circuit.

Likewise, these are the three new circuits in Machu Picchu:

  • Circuit 1

    The panoramic circuit that includes the visit to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu by the viewpoint of the Guardian’s House where you get the best postcard photo and the full view of the Inca citadel. This circuit takes 1 hour 30 minutes approximately. It is included in the tickets Machu Picchu Classic Photo, Machu Picchu with Inca Bridge, Machu Picchu with Intipunku and Machu Picchu with Mountain.

  • Circuit 2

    The classic circuit includes the visit to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu through its main granite stone buildings, such as: the viewpoint of the Temple of the Sun, the Main Temple, the Temple of the 3 Windows, the Sacred Rock, the Hall of Mirrors, the ceremonial fountains and the agricultural sector. It also includes the classic photo from the sector of the Guardian’s House through its lower terraces. The tour lasts approximately 2 hours. This circuit is included in the tickets Machu Picchu Classic and Machu Picchu Classic lower terrace.

  • Circuit 3

    The circuit of the royalty that includes the visit to Inca precincts of great importance in Machu Picchu, such as: the Royal Tomb, the Temple of the Sun, the House of the Inca, the Sacred Rock, the Temple of the Condor, the ceremonial fountains and the agricultural sector. The best photo is obtained from the agricultural sector. This circuit can be completed in approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. It is included in the tickets Machu Picchu Temples of the lower part, Machu Picchu with Huayna Picchu, Machu Picchu with Huchuy Picchu and Machu Picchu with Temple of the Lina (Great Cavern).

This ticket allows you to visit Machu Picchu through circuit 1. Therefore, the tour is by the stone steps (route between 15 to 30 minutes) to reach the Guardian’s House where you get the best view and the best postcard photo of Machu Picchu. It is suitable for all ages and every day of the year.

This ticket offers the same tour as the Classic Machu Picchu ticket. The only difference is that the classic photo is taken a few meters lower (on a lower terrace), although the panorama is almost identical. It is also suitable for all ages and is available all year round.

Ticket Machu Picchu with Intipunku

This ticket offers the tour of Machu Picchu through the circuit, that is, the visit to the Guardian’s House where you get the best postcard photos and the best view. It also allows you to hike to Intipunku, the sun gate of the Inca city. This hike takes 1 hour uphill and 1 hour downhill on average. The ticket is suitable for visitors of all ages but the route to Intipunku is only available during the high tourist season, from June 1 to October 15.
