SUMMARY: The 2-day Inca Trail tour begins with the tourist's pick-up at the door of their hotel in Cusco. Then you travel by minivan and train to kilometer 104 of the Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes road. The tour begins with the pick up in Cusco. Then travel by bus and train to the starting point of the trek. The route is 11 kilometers through Inca sites, beautiful landscapes and historical roads. Itinerary

The 2-day Inca Trail is not as demanding as the Classic Inca Trail (4 days). It begins with the pick up of the tourist from the door of his hotel. After a trip by minivan and train we will arrive at the control point where we will visit the archaeological site of Chachabamba. We will continue the ascent until we visit the archaeological complex of Wiñayhuayna. Finally we will arrive at Machu Picchu which we will visit the next day with all our energies recharged.

1 DAY 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Km. 104

  1. We will pick you up at around 4 am from the door of your hotel to transport us in our minivan to the Ollantaytambo train station in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
  2. In Ollantaytambo we will board the 'Expedition' train where we will travel through beautiful landscapes until we reach kilometer 104 of the railway, the starting point of the short Inca Trail.
  3. There we must register and get ready to start the 2-day Inca Trail route.

2 Day 1: Km 104 – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes

  1. At the beginning of the route we will appreciate the Inca site of Chachabamba. Then we will continue uphill through impressive tropical landscapes until we reach the archaeological site of Wiñayhuayna. There we will enjoy a repairing lunch (box lunch).
  2. Then we will continue going up steep paths until we finally reach the Intipunku (Puerta del Sol), from where all the beauty of Machu Picchu can be appreciated. We finally arrived!
  3. From the Intipunku we will descend to Machu Picchu and from there we will take one of the buses to the famous town of Aguas Calientes (not included in the tour) where we will rest in the hotel destined for that night.
  4. Before resting, we will enjoy dinner in Aguas Calientes.

3 Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu

  1. We will get up early to have breakfast at the hotel in Aguas Calientes.
  2. Then we will walk to the bus station where we will make the short trip (only 30 minutes) to the entrance gate to Machu Picchu.
  3. During this route we will enjoy the beautiful mountainous landscapes full of vegetation that are a foretaste of Machu Picchu.

4 Day 2: Tourist circuit for Machu Picchu

  1. For approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, we will dedicate ourselves to tour Machu Picchu in the company of our tour guide. The ticket included is 'Machupicchu Classic', the most recommended because it includes circuit 2, the most recommended. We will also have time to get postcard photos with the Inca city in the background.
  2. In this tour we will visit famous Inca constructions such as: the House of the Guardian (classic photo of Machu Picchu), the Sacred Plaza (Main Temple and Temple of the 3 Windows), the Sacred Rock, the Three Gates, the Hall of Mirrors, the Temple of the Sun and more.

3 Return to Cusco

  1. After the visit to Machu Picchu, we will descend by bus from the archaeological site to the town of Aguas Calientes. This trip is short as it takes only 30 minutes.
  2. In the town of Aguas Calientes we will have free time to have lunch (not included in the tour) and do the last shopping before returning to Cusco.
  3. We will return to Cusco with a train trip to Ollantaytambo (Expedition or Vistadome train) and then by minivan to the city of Cusco where the tour ends.

Important information

The only way to do the Inca Trail is by booking a tour through an authorized tourism agency. In February, the route remains closed due to the constant rains. The rest of the year it is open. The symptoms of altitude sickness are reduced if you spend the previous days in Cusco. Know more details!

No porter needed

Unlike the Classic Inca Trail; the Short Inca Trail does not need porters to carry luggage. The tourist must carry a backpack with the basic weight.

Closure of the Inca Trail in February

Both the Classic Inca Trail (4 days) and the Short Inca Trail (2 days) close in February for conservation work. The rest of the year, everything remains open to tourists.

How to combat altitude sickness?

Altitude sickness can be an inconvenience during the tour. It is recommended to adapt to the climate of Cusco at least one or two days before. This reduces the symptoms of altitude sickness.
